PREPARING YOUR BODY

EXCELLENT EYESIGHT

Before you begin practicing applying lash extensions on a real person, it is recommended that you get an updated eye exam that tests your up-close vision. If you do not have excellent up-close vision naturally, even with magnifying glasses, applying eyelash extensions safely and quickly will likely be very challenging.

Once you get your vision checked, and before you begin practicing on your mannequin, it is recommended that you buy a pair of one of these magnifiers.

Note: There are people who swear by the expensive dental loops but I don’t recommend investing in those until you get farther into your lash artisty and know this is a career you will be doing for at least a few years.

STEADY HANDS

Steady hands are incredibly important to becoming an amazing lash artist. You will be holding sharp tweezers near someone’s eyes so having a lot of hand control and steadiness is vital for the client’s safety. Also, you will be applying a tiny extension to a tiny natural lash which takes precision.

Test your hands: hold your hand in front of your face and see if it is steady or it shakes.

What causes shakey hands?

  • Caffeine
  • Nervousness
  • Age
  • Some medical conditions
  • Hand injuries
  • Fatigue

FINGERNAILS

Ready for some bummer news?

Long fingernails usually make it harder to learn lash extensions because it makes it harder to properly grip the tweezers. Long nails also pose a safety concern to your client as you could cause damage to their eye area if you accidentally poke them with your nails as well as long nails harbor bacteria that could put your client at risk.

If you love your long nails and cannot part with them, I do recommend at least removing them through your training process and if you put them back on, always wearing gloves when working on a client.

Will you make a great lash artist?

Lash artisty is a fast-growing career. But, why do some lash artists have waiting lists a mile long, and others are struggling to find even heavily discounted clientele?

Do this reflective exercise to see if you have what it takes to become a sought-after lash artist and what you may want to work on before starting your career.

Feel free to be completely honest. You aren’t turning this worksheet in…this is just for your own reflection.

Answer the questions below and then check your answers by clicking the down arrow next to it. Just a reminder…there is a final exam at the end of this course and in order to receive your certificate, you will need to pass it. Re-read the information above if you didn’t pass the quiz below.

Having super long finger nails can make it very hard for you to hold the tweezers properly, thus, slowing down how quickly you can work. it also poses a safety risk for your client as you may accidentally poke them in the eye area. Long fingernails also harbor a lot of bacteria so if you choose to still wear long nails, it is recommended that you wear gloves to protect your client from a potential bacterial infection.
