EXCELLENT EYESIGHT
Before you begin practicing applying lash extensions on a real person, it is recommended that you get an updated eye exam that tests your up-close vision. If you do not have excellent up-close vision naturally, even with magnifying glasses, applying eyelash extensions safely and quickly will likely be very challenging.
Once you get your vision checked, and before you begin practicing on your mannequin, it is recommended that you buy a pair of one of these magnifiers.
Note: There are people who swear by the expensive dental loops but I don’t recommend investing in those until you get farther into your lash artisty and know this is a career you will be doing for at least a few years.
STEADY HANDS
Steady hands are incredibly important to becoming an amazing lash artist. You will be holding sharp tweezers near someone’s eyes so having a lot of hand control and steadiness is vital for the client’s safety. Also, you will be applying a tiny extension to a tiny natural lash which takes precision.
Test your hands: hold your hand in front of your face and see if it is steady or it shakes.

FINGERNAILS
Ready for some bummer news?
Long fingernails usually make it harder to learn lash extensions because it makes it harder to properly grip the tweezers. Long nails also pose a safety concern to your client as you could cause damage to their eye area if you accidentally poke them with your nails as well as long nails harbor bacteria that could put your client at risk.
If you love your long nails and cannot part with them, I do recommend at least removing them through your training process and if you put them back on, always wearing gloves when working on a client.
